Ottawa, the capital city of Canada. The city is shared by the provinces of Quebec and Ontario and is English and French speaking. I managed to get there by the first of July to celebrate Canada day together with my CouchSurfing host Deanna and her friends.
Getting there
Starting from Calgary, I arrived in Ottawa very early morning. My hostess Deanna has sent me all the necessary information in advance, so I only had to arrive. However I woke up some Canadians around 5am in the morning by ringing at the false door. Whoops!
Somehow I managed to get to Deannas place. I actually didn't meet her at the first time, when I opened the door, everything was perfectly prepaired already for me and I had a nap, as I was kind of tired from travelling.
Later on in the afternoon I went to the city center to do some sightseeing and finally meet Deanna.
About Ottawa
Ottawa is the capital city of Canada. Therefore you're going to find tons of government buildings.
The parliament of Ottowa kind of looks like the town hall of Vienna. That was suprising somehow!

Canada day!
It was first celebrated as "Dominion day" on July 1, 1867. It's the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, enactment of the British North America Act/Constitution Act, which united three British colonies into a single country, called Canada.

Hockey and Canada
Canadians love hockey as Austrians love skiing. Therefore you'll find hockey monuments, statues and museums. It's almost a relegion as soccer is in Brazil.

About my hostess
I was the first Couchsurfing surfer of Deanna. I am glad she is dedicated a lot to Couchsurfing so my stay was very good one. She introduced me her friends and other Couchsurfers. I had a great time and the chance to celebrate among Canadians, thank you again. :-)
